Well, it's July, and the S.A.F.E. Summer Program was once again a great success. We had over 200 1-5th graders participating in nature games, art sessions, bug hunts, kite-flying contests, water baseball, juggling presentations, roller skating, plays, face-painting, rainforest education, swimming lessons, and scavenger hunts, just to name a few of the events included in our program for this age group. We had weekly fieldtrips, many guest speakers, and good food (some of which was donated by Santa Fe Independent School District cafeterias).
As they have in the past, the Mark Kilroy Foundation provided free golf and tennis lessons for 6-12th graders. Swimming lessons were also added this summer for all ages, through College of the Mainland. There is much interest in expanding these activities to include archery, and more fresh and salt-water fishing lessons in the future.
S.A.F.E. Summer Program teens (more than 350 of them) participated in golf, tennis, swimming lessons, boat rides, putt putt golf, theater, CiCi's Pizza, and Schlitterbahn Water Park. We have amazing young people here, many of whom have no idea how amazing they are.
A big thanks to everyone that volunteered all of their time and energy to help make our S.A.F.E. Summer Program educational, safe, and entertaining for all!
Without the people of this community, this program would not be possible. You all deserve a great big THANK YOU for making it such a great program.
